State of Connecticut, Dental Assisting Certification Requirements
Dental Assistant:
You may perform basic dental procedures under the supervision of a licensed dentist.
As of July 1, 2018, you must provide records that demonstrate successful performance on the infections control exam through the DANB.
If you are currently a dental assistant and have not yet passed the DANB exam prior to July 1, 2018, you have until April 1, 2019 to get on-the-job training by a licensed dentist in order to prepare for and pass the exam.
New dental assistants hired after July 1, 2018 have 9 months to receive the training by a licensed dentist to prepare for and pass the exam.
Expanded Function Dental Assistant:
You must maintain a current certification as either a Certified Dental Assistant or Certified Orthodontic Assistant
Successfully complete the expanded function dental assistant program through an accredited institution.
Complete at least 4 hours of education in ethics and professional stands for dental professionals.
Complete a comprehensive clinical exam
Pass the DANB's Certified Preventive Functions Dental Assistant certification exam, and the Certified Restorative Functions Dental Assistant certification exam.
