State of Kentucky, Dental Assisting Certification Requirements

Dental Auxiliary

You can perform basic dental procedures until the supervision of a licensed dentist.
There are no education or training requirements.

Registered Dental Assistant

You must have a current and valid CPR certification that your supervising dentist registers on his/her Application for Renewal of Dental Licensure, plus maintains a personnel file for you that contains a copy of your CPR certification, a copy of your certificates of completion for the Coronal Polishing, Radiation Safety, Radiation Techniques, and Starting IV Access Lines courses, as long as they've been completed.

Registered Dental Assistant Qualified In Coronal Polishing

You must complete an 8 hour course from an accredited program
Get your certificate of completion from the authorized institution.
Your employer must retain it in your personnel file.

Registered Dental Assistant Qualified In IV Placement

Complete a board approved course in starting IV lines
Submit documentation of course completion to your supervising dentist. Records must be retained in your personnel files.
