There are no requirements for this level.
Dental Assistant With A Limited Permit
This is a one-year permit to be done prior to taking and passing the exam requirements.
You must be at least 17 years old. Have a high school diploma or equivalent. Complete either: A New York approved, 1 year course (24 semester hours), 200 hours clinical experience, Or, and equivalent course of study in a non-degree granting institution. Or, an acceptable alternate dental assisting program that includes 1,000 hours of work experience. Having this dental assistant with limited permit license will allow your to perform basic dental procedures under direct supervision of a licensed dentist. This permit expires after one year, but may be renewed for one additional year.
New York State Licensed "Certified Dental Assistant"
You must be at least 17 years old. Have a high school diploma or equivalent. Complete either: A New York approved, 1 year course (24 semester hours), 200 hours clinical experience, Or, and equivalent course of study in a non-degree granting institution. Or, an acceptable alternate dental assisting program that includes 1,000 hours of work experience. Complete one of the two following exam pathways:
Pass all 3 parts of the national DANB Certified Dental Assistant exam: radiation health and safety (RHS), infection control (ICE), and general chairside (GC). Or, Pass DANBs RHS and ICE exams, along with the New York Professional Dental Assisting (NYPDA) exam. Apply for your license from the New York State Education Department upon completing all of the above requirements.
