State of Colorado, Dental Assisting Certification Requirements
Dental Assistant:
You may perform basic supportive dental procedures under the supervision of a licensed dentist.
There are no educational requirements.
If you administer or monitor nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation, your supervising dentist must make sure you're properly trained and have current Basic Life Support training.
If you administer patient care service where local anesthesia, analgesia, minimal to deep sedation or general anesthesia are administered, you must have completed and maintain certification in Basic Life Support.
Extended Duties Dental Assistant:
You may choose to complete an extended duties dental assistant course but it is not recognized by the Colorado Dental Board and does not qualify dental assistants to perform extended duties.
