State of Missouri, Dental Assisting Certification Requirements

Dental Assistant

You are permitted to perform basic dental procedures under the supervision of a licensed dentist.

If you have a CDA certification, you may assist in the administration of, and monitor nitrous oxide analgesia as long as you complete one of the following:

Formal certified training from a board-approved course, and pass a competency exam.
If you're certified in another state, you must submit proof to the Missouri Dental Board.
Get a permit from the Missouri Dental Board.

Expanded Functions Dental Assistant

You must either have the DANB Certified Dental Assistant certification and graduate from an accredited dental assisting program where competency testing in the appropriate expanded functions was complete.
Or, you have a DANB CDA certification and have completed a Missouri Dental Board approved expanded functions training course.
Or, pass the Missouri Test of Basic Dental Assisting Skills and complete an approved expanded functions training course.
Have a current and valid BLS or CPR certification.
Submit proof that you've met the requirements, along with your application form and fee payment.
