Dental Assistant
You are able to perform basic dental procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.
You must have a current and valid CPR certificate.
Qualified Dental Assistant (QDA)
You must pass the national Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) and Infection Control (ICE) exams within one year prior to your application. Or, you passed both the RHS and ICE exams within 2 years of applying, plus had 16 hours of continuing education. Complete 650 hours of dental assistance instruction, including on-the-job training. Pass the written exam of the North Dakota laws and rules governing the practice of dentistry. Have a current and valid CPR certificate. Verification of ICE course completion with 2 years prior to application. Apply to the North Dakota State Board of Dental Examiners. Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)

You must be first be a Registered Dental Assistant. Then, you must provide documentation of taking and passing the North Dakota Board approved sealant course. Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) with Anesthesia Assisting Permits (Class I and II)
You must first be a Registered Dental Assistant.
To earn a Class I anesthesia permit:
Complete a board-approved dental anesthesia training course. Send in proof of your current dental anesthesia assistant national certification status from the American Association of Maxillofacial Surgeons, or your board-approved competency exam. Have a current and valid Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers, or advanced cardiac life support or pediatric advanced life support certifications. Provide a copy of your valid North Dakota general anesthesia or parenteral permit from the dentist when you'll be performing your services. Apply to the North Dakota Board of Dental Examiners for your Class I anesthesia assisting permit. To earn a Class II anesthesia permit:
Complete all the Class I anesthesia assistant requirements. Complete your training in IV access or phlebotomy that includes practicing on live people for experience starting and maintaining IV lines. Apply to the North Dakota Board of Dental Examiners for a Class II anesthesia permit. Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) with Restorative Functions Permit
Complete your board-approved courses. Pass the Western Regional Examining Board Restorative exam, or equivalent, within the last 5 years. The Board my require you to complete the Restorative Function (RF) component of DANB's CRFDA certification exam. Or, pass the WREB Restorative Examination or another board-approved variation more than five years from the date of your application. Complete the RF component of the certification exam. If you're from another state and want to be registered in North Dakota, you need to provide evidence from that other state that you were authorized to perform restorative functions, plus certification from the supervising dentist of successfully completing 25 restorative procedures with the immediate 5 years prior to the date of your application.
